Today as I was trying to decide what music I wanted to listen to while preparing for my accounting test on Monday, my mind wandered to the first cd that I ever bought in my life. Some people are embarrassed to reveal that sensitive piece of information, but I could not be more proud of my first cd purchase. The album? The Space Jam Soundtrack. That’s right, R. Kelly, Chris Rock, Seal, Coolio and Bugs Bunny are the award winning artists included on this album…what is there to be embarrassed of? The CD will always have very special place in my heart for several reasons, the first of which is track five – “Hit Em High”. What a miracle it is to have Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Coolio, Method Man, and B Real all collaborate to lay down this tasty rhyme. This was my anthem as an 11-year-old street baller. This is the jam we used to pump playing three on three in the back yard. For anybody who wants to check the song out, and I know you all do, here is the link: http://hypem.com/search/monstars/1/ .
The second reason I love the CD is the movie it came from. I still remember in sixth grade when my friend Sean Neuffer offered me a ride in his mom’s minivan to watch this movie in the theatre. Best day ever. Space Jam changed my life. I probably never shed so many tears in one sitting. It was beautiful. Anyways, Space Jam and track five on the Space Jam soundtrack – written by the “Monstars” got me thinking. We have a few players in the NBA that I am pretty sure are aliens or “Monstars.” In remembrance of Space Jam as well as celebration for this upcoming NBA season, I compiled a list of players I think could possibly be aliens. At the very least you could consider this a lineup of the all-ugly-team in the NBA today. Feel free to add your own players to this list, which is by no means comprehensive.
1. Sam Cassell
2. Chris Kaman
3. Adam Morrson
4. Carlos Boozer
5. Tie between Sheldon Williams and Stephen Jackson
To Sam Cassell, Chris Kaman, Adam Morrison, Carlos Boozer, Sheldon Williams, and Stephen Jackson: No offense - you all have a lot more talent than I will ever have, but I just don't think you are from this planet.

i am confused by this new contributor to the blog.. is this tyler? i inferred that from the "20000" at the end of the name, but it sounds a lot like dustin...but i believe dustin goes by the alias of steven nash..
Don't worry Brooke, it's T.Hales 20 Mill...
this made me laugh. we'd like to welcome THALES200000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000. PLAYA!
oh, well with that settled, i can now make my comment.
my first CD was savage garden's self titled album, savage garden. but i believe a close second was amy grant: house of love.
its true, yours is much less shameful. basketball jones is timeless.
kaman is def from another planet.... sometimes i look in the mirror and i think the same thing. Glad you are on the blog now tyler.... i hope you do well on this week's tests! :)
My first cd was frogstomp by the band silverchair. I remember mentioning that I had bought it really loud so that a cute girl would think I was cool. it didn't work. This post from T-hales works though.
my first cd was hootie and the blowfish, my next was no doubt. my next cd will probably be the newest e.r.c. or r. kelly album. he's failed to re-create the magic that was 'i believe i can fly' though.
I have the Space Jam CD, it's the coolest ever.
I know it been a while but I would like to add the name Kurt Rambis to the monstars list, and ERC it's apparent that we started buying cd's at the same time because Hootie was my first cd, and no doubt was third sandwiched between Alanis Moressete and oasis, they were purchased not long after my Sony Boombox with detachable speakers and mega bass.
